The God that Answers with Fire

We serve an almighty God. There is nothing impossible for Him. My greatest desire is that the seeds I sow in the hearts of children will produces abundant fruit. They are the church of today and the hope of tomorrow.

Today we begin a mini-series about the ministry of one of the most powerful prophets. The account of the day he asked for fire from heaven is amazing.

Last week we had the story of the three young men who refused to worship a statue. Amid the fire God showed His good pleasure. It’s awesome to think that Jesus was with the young men in the fire!

Today, the story is about Elijah, when the people were limping between two different opinions. Instead of serving the Lord they followed the false god Baal. Then Elijah asked for fire from heaven!

I love this drawing my artist Absalom has made, showing what happened when God had sent the fire, and there was only a big hole left!

Close your eyes and meditate on this. The power of God is the same today. He wants to pour His fire into our lives. John the Baptist said that Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. How I want the fire of the Holy Spirit to envelop us! Yes, exactly that. Envelope us!

Think of a gift, wrapped in beautiful paper. Your life is a gift. Would you like it to be “wrapped” in the Holy Spirit? It is wonderful to be filled to the brim with the Spirit and His power. I have no words to explain it!

As the fire consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, the dust, and even licked the water, the fire of God can consume everything in our lives that does not please Him. Ask God for His fire to consume you, to envelop you…

Read the story of Elijah. Take note of the wonders God did through this his faithful servant. When the angel announced the birth of John the Baptist, he said that he would go before Jesus “in the spirit and power of Elijah.”

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, 15 for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. 16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God, 17 and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.” Luke 1:13-17

God wants to raise up new “Elijah’s” –men and women who fight the hordes of wickedness. Read 1 Kings 17 through 2 Kings 2. At the end of his days came chariots of fire and horses of fire to escort him home. And he went to heaven in a whirlwind! What a home-going!

May we be 21st century “Elijah’s,” filled with the Holy Spirit of God!
